An oud, a ney, a duff and the sea. The sound a cruise line is recognised by.

Oud and ney recorded live. Duff under electronics. A side chain that breathes like a wave. Waves and birdsong inside the brand.

From a nineteen-second sound signature to a full score. Composed with agencies or commissioned direct, from Lisbon.

Selected pieces, with the film
that carries each one

Every piece here is his music inside someone else's film, credited on its own page. The excerpts are short by design: enough to hear the idea, not enough to replace the brief.

Nine excerpts play here. The Azure DNA track is heard on the MassiveMusic case page.

What he composes

Sonic identity

A DNA track that carries the brand's character, a sonic logo cut from it, and the assets a brand actually plays: announcement tones, transitions, UX sounds, and the guidelines to use them.

Commercials and film

Original music for television, cinema and fashion film, from a nineteen-second signature to a full cue sheet, in Portuguese and English markets.

Original music

Albums, remixes and live scores. Beneath the Sun was released on Nuevadark in 2017 and supported by Nick Warren, Hernan Cattaneo and Blond:ish.

How a sound is made

The four stages of every commission, in order.

  1. 01

    Listen

The brief, the brand's own words, and where the music will be heard: a ship's deck, a cinema, a phone.

  2. 02

    Compose

Melody first. For Azure the lead oud carried the whole identity, and everything else was built around it.

  3. 03

    Record

Live players where the brief needs them: oud, ney, duff. Natural sound from the place itself: waves, birdsong.

  4. 04

    Deliver

The DNA track, the logo, the cutdowns, the tones and UX sounds, and the guidelines that keep the brand consistent.

Featured case

Azure Lines

The sound of the Iberian market's first cruise line, composed at MassiveMusic Lisbon: a DNA track led by a live oud, a ney written as a breath of inspiration, duff under electronic beats, waves and birdsong inside the brand. Regional Brand Awards silver in 2024 and gold for best sonic brand evolution in 2025.

Remarkably Iberian

Three pillars carried the identity: a live oud for what is remarkably Iberian, the sound of dream waves for the sea, and a ney written as the gasp of inspiration. Duff percussion sits under the electronics, and the sea and its birds are inside the brand's music.

Questions before a commission.

A jingle is one song for one campaign. A sonic identity is a system: a DNA track that carries the brand's character, a short sonic logo cut from it, and the assets a brand plays every day, from an announcement tone to the sound a button makes. The Azure identity includes a DNA track, playlist transitions, a PA tone, ship horn blasts and UX sounds.

Listening, composition, live recording where the brief needs it, mixing, the cutdowns, and the guidelines that let the brand use the music consistently. The deliverables are fixed in writing before the work starts.

It depends on how much is recorded live and how many assets the brand needs. The stages are the same every time: listen, compose, record, deliver. The dates are set with you at the brief.

Both. The Azure identity was composed at MassiveMusic Lisbon with the agency's team. Northwind, Kingfisher, Casper Drinks and Cappy were composed for brands and production companies. Write either way.

Yes, when they are written into a contemporary arrangement rather than placed on top of one. The Azure lead oud carries the melody for listeners who have never heard an oud, and the electronics under it are what any listener already knows.

The terms are set per commission and written into the agreement: which uses, which territories, for how long. Ask before the work starts and the answer will be in the contract.

Yes. Reverie for Vantage Fair, Latimer Films and the Two Rivers film are scores. The Northwind, Casper Drinks, Cappy and Kingfisher pieces are commercial music.

Yes. Based in Lisbon, with work for the Iberian market, Portugal and the United States. Recording happens where the player and the instrument are, and the rest is done in the studio.
